Jess's Reflection

Wow I can't beleive I'm finally done. It's been weeks of blood, sweat, tears, and possible mental health problems, but it's finished. After the topic had been chosen, it was fairly easy to make up questions, although I found out, multiple times, that you need to actually WRITE THEM DOWN TO REMEMBER THEM :P. In general it was a fairly fun project and, for me personally, it was EXTREMELY helpful. It forced my to look over all of the things that I didn't remember, and remember not to go to fast with the ones that I do remember. Overall it was a really great project to do and I'm looking forward to doing it again, although NOT right away lol.

Your New Beginning

From this moment onward, you are Jackie, a new graduate from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in Winnipeg. It is summer break and your dad has just asked you to come and visit him at his home in Sydney Australia. On June 29th you board the plane practically bouncing with excitement to be going out of the country for the first time. You could never guess what would happen next....

The News

June 25th

You walk slowly up the steps to your front door, reluctant to leave your friends and go back to the boredom of regular life, which you have been able to escape from for the last 3 days while at a friend’s house. You had all decided to celebrate the end of your last year. With this thought in mind you walk through your front door and back into your boring life. Or so you thought…

Before you’ve even had time to set down your duffle bag, your mom has caught you up in a gigantic hug and swept you into the living room. Apparently intent on surprising you, she gestures towards the coffee table without a word. Knowing the only way for you to find out what she is up to is to go along with it, you take the few steps to the coffee table. With a sigh, you pick up the envelope on the table, knowing that it was probably your aunt Margaret AGAIN, and you had better set yourself for an hour and a half of the most boring news on the planet. That’s when you see the plane ticket. It had been sitting under the envelope so that she couldn’t see it. Hoping that your assumption as to who has sent these is right, you tear open the envelope and fumble with the papers inside, trying desperately to get them out even though your hand is shaking. Finally you get them out of the envelope. IT’S FROM YOUR DAD!!! He has invited you to stay with him over the summer on the research vessel he works on. The ticket is to Sydney, Australia where you will get picked up.

Slowly you turn to look at your mom, feeling like it’s practically too good to be true. Dad’s been gone for the last 7 months on this last study, and you haven’t seen him since he left. She grins at you, gives you another hug, and then, in a mock stern tone, tells you to hurry up and pack or else you can’t go. Laughing, you race upstairs to get your things together. You leave in only 4 days.

On the Plane

June 29th

You are boarding the plane leaving for Sydney. You can see your mom waving at you from the observation deck and you waving back before turning to walk through the door. After you have stowed your carry-on and sat down in your seat, you turn on your music and set yourself to sleep for the entire trip.

With a thump, something heavy lands on your stomach, waking you instantly. You look up and see an old man settling into the seat beside you. You assume that the briefcase sitting on you is his. You get up, ready to make him apologize. He looks at you, giving you an absent grin and says “Good morning to you”, then settles into the seat beside you. Since it is 6 o’clock in the evening it is evident that he’s not really all there. Knowing now that telling him off will not help you in the least you settle into your seat again.

Half an hour later you are about ready to jump out of the window. The man beside you, Dr. Anderson, hasn’t stopped talking for even a moment since you sat down. According to him, he is a brilliant mathematician who has decided to take an extended vacation on the beaches of Australia. According to you he is a madman who stole someone else’s ticket, but that’s beside the point.

Eventually you drift off to sleep to the drone of his voice.

What's Happening???

June 30th

You wake up to the sound of panicked voices and running feet. Still foggy from sleep you stand up and immediately hit your head on the cabinet above you, knocking yourself unconscious again. As you loose consciousness you hear a giant crash and the sound of metal grinding on metal. Then… black…
